I was searching for a security system…
I was searching for a security system for our new home and browsing different sites when I received a call from a SimpliSafe representative. He asked about what I was looking for in a security system, and I have to admit—he did his job well, and we decided to make a purchase. We asked plenty of questions before buying, but unfortunately, the rep wasn’t honest.
The system arrived within two days, but once we opened the box, we realized it wouldn’t work for us. It required hardwiring, and we had no way to install it in our backyard. It was much more complicated than the rep had explained.
We immediately called to request a full refund. The rep emailed us a return label for USPS, and while the system arrived quickly, it took over a month for SimpliSafe to process the return. Even after confirming they had received the package, we still hadn’t received a refund.
Two months passed, and when we finally called to check on the status, it became clear that if we hadn’t followed up, we likely wouldn’t have been refunded at all. SimpliSafe initially tried to refund only the cost of the equipment—excluding the taxes, which made no sense.
After a couple of hours of back-and-forth with their customer service, we finally received the full refund, which was posted nearly two months after returning the system.
If you’re considering SimpliSafe, be cautious. Our experience with their return and refund process was frustrating and felt intentionally difficult.
Cameras have outdated technology; waste of $$$
This is trash technology so far as cameras are concerned. These `sloth' cameras don't record continuously (like NEST does). I am not promoting nest here. I had nest in my previous home and regret why I didn't buy that in this house. Simplisafe cameras wake up when there's motion. And the waking up is so slow that if someone walks past the camera or stands still, it won't record anything. It's too slow to respond. Waste of my almost $2,000 investment. Junk hardware
Not a reputable company
Be aware that when you cancel your service they will call and tell you they will give you a free three months which allows you to keep your warranty. What they don’t make clear is that after the three months they will automatically resume charging the monthly fee. I had my account and was paying for my daughters and didn’t realize that the account we cancelled in August of 2023 started re charging me in November of 2023. I assumed the two monthly charges were from my and my other daughters but found out she took her payments over in August of 2023. I called customer service and they would only refund six months of charges not the entire thirteen months even though they could see in their system that it had not sent a test signal since the August 2023 cancellation date. NOT a reputable service.
System requires inordinate amount of babysitting.
Simplisafe pushed for quality packaging and ease of setup but never on product reliability. Investing a large amount on marketing cost them in reliability.
Cameras detect motion, turn on, start recording, alert owner in such a slow clunky manner that you mostly see the back of someone’s head walking away,,, if ever.
I spent a lot of money on motion detectors, water sensors, glass-break sensors cameras and entry sensors all of which take turns “not responding”,
The system takes an enormous amount of babysitting.
Customer service will blame the WiFi. The WiFi that is 8 feet away from the camera or sensor. The same wifi that works fine for everything else. Oh yes, they will offer plenty of blame and no accountability for poorly performing product.
I don’t know how much better Ring or other competitors do but make sure you look carefully at all the players in the home security field and don’t misinterpret good marketing for good product.
Didn’t realize doorbell only works when…
Didn’t realize doorbell camera only works when wired in. I’ve owned other video doorbells in the past that work off battery. Ended up not being an easy install for my front door due to the wiring. Tried to return new in box (unopened) after the return window had passed and was told I couldn’t return. I’m sure the cameras work fine, but be careful that it will work with your wiring and make sure you don’t let the return window pass. They won’t take it back.
SimpliSafe is unreliable
SimpliSafe is unreliable. You constantly are on the phone with them. Then I went off the plan because they are so bad. They shut my visual down on doorbell camera. So it is a useless cheap security system. The customer service is terrible. I do not recommend at all.
Numerous hardware issues & terrible customer service
System range is relatively small. Two different door sensors & the keypad would drop signal frequently. If the keypad dropped signal it no longer worked which caused numerous false alarms. Tech Support had no idea and was just reading automated prompts from a computer without an understanding of how anything works. Cancellation was a terrible experience as the only native English speaker I dealt with was absolutely annoyed to have to do her job and was obviously preoccupied.
Dont get caught out
Dont get caught out. Over the top prices for the Hardware and £21 pounds a month. Shocking. Taking out system and replacing with Ring or an alternative.
They do no offer the ability to store video from your outdoor cameras unless you take Pro monitor coverage at £21 a month.
It is cheaper than ADT but the concept…
It is cheaper than ADT but the concept is so flawed that you might as well pay for ADT. I knew my neighbors were vandalizing my car but I needed proof and I ordered an gen 2 outdoor camera with glass break sensor and a panic button . I placed my order on Dec 3 - my eta is Dec 12. .. my neighbors have been violating my property for well over a week now and I have dents and scratches everywhere. But unless I added $69 expedited shipping to my order , this is the transit time unfortunately. I’m sick to my stomach about this
They delete your whole system when you xcl monitoring
I paid for monitoring for about a year when my dog died (I didn’t feel safe without him)- I recently decided to stop the monitoring service and they deleted my whole dang system! I have to reset every sensor and the home base all over again, I know that rep I spoke to did it on purpose- I have a very monotone voice that people often mistake for being Kurt- when it’s just my voice. Teach your employees not to take customers cancelling personally- or change your incentive packages for them so as to not punish them when someone closes their monitoring account.
A good system unless you want home security
First the pros. Very easy to order and fit, and a good price for home security.
As long as you are not bothered about having a working burglar alarm, it is a good choice. I fitted mine in July. There have been more or less constant warnings that the backup batteries are not charging, regular power outages for no reason and regular warnings that the internet connection has been lost. At present my phone is sat on top of the base station and shows a download speed of 1154Mbps and upload speed of 805Mbps (2.4 & 5 GHz both on) The simplisafe base station cannot connect. Given the choice again I would go elsewhere.
No Integrity and dishonesty
I had simplisafe for 2 years for my commercial building. Over that time I had multiple issues, but eventually got better. I had a camera go bad, they replaced it. I had an doorbell camera get hazy. It took them 6 months to get it to me. I then sold my building and called a head of time to cancel. They said they set it up. I called back the day of closing to be sure it canceled and it hadn't. The guy gave me a free month. Then I looked at my C.C statement about a month later after the free month was done. They charged me. They said they would credit me... and they didn't. I called 4 times to cancel my subscription. Their business is not ran with integrity. Look at your options before committing.
Faulty camera/No follow up from tech support
One of my outdoor cameras stopped working a month ago and I have called SimpliSafe half a dozen times without any resolution. They keep telling me someone from engineering will review and get back to me, but no one has. This has been going on for weeks.
I no longer feel safe
Until today, I have had positive experiences with SS. I woke up this morning and found that my garage door was wide open all night. I had armed the alarm from the bedroom, with apparently no problems or notifications that a door was open. The system allows arming with any door or window open with only a brief message from the base which may be in another room and unheard. My expensive ADT system, whatever other faults it had (mostly rising prices) was much better at this. It allowed the arming with open doors, but with explicit commands.
Cheap, until you own it
Most importantly, they quote you a low monthly fee, and low upfront costs. Then, they'll double your monthly fees after you've already spent the upfront costs, hoping you won't switch because of those costs. The equipment is low quality, constantly needing new batteries, and they don't all take the same batteries so you never have the right one.
Purchased new SimpliSafe system in…
Purchased new SimpliSafe system in early November 2024 to find we were awakened by weak battery notifications on consecutive nights. Customer service walked me through elementary troubleshooting despite my insistence the KTS batteries were weak upon delivery. I requested supervisor call back which never happened. We purchased new batteries for all devices with no problems since. Poor customer service.
I ordered a smoke-CO detector
I ordered a smoke-CO detector, and was sent a smoke detector. A replacement was sent out for the smoke-CO detector, and again I received a smoke detector. Very frustrated with this experience. Customer support did not seem to care. There is clearly a packaging problem.
Worst camera ever we have had two…
Worst camera ever we have had two occasions that they stole signs from my front lawn and both time for some reason didn’t record. It recorded everything else of the day but not that time frame. Which makes me believe if there is a break-in in my house one day this will never detect absolutely anything.currently looking for another alarm system.
A lousy system
A lousy system. When the alarm is triggered, you have 45 seconds to put in the passcode to disarm the system. The thief also gets 45 seconds to disarm the system. I tried but found you cannot reduce this 45 second waiting period.
I installed this system Monday in a vacant property. That same Friday, a thief breaks in thru a window right in front of a motion sensor. The base began its audible 45-second count-down. (I admit I had forgotten to silence the count-down). The thief found the base, unplugged it, and somehow disabled it, then proceeded to vandalize the house.
We knew nothing of it. The police were never called. A Power Outage trouble signal went to Central Station, but they never called. The following Monday , when I happened to call Central Station, they informed me they had lost contact with the system.
The next day, when I got to the house, I found the broken window. The base had disappeared along with the triggering motion sensor. The house was vandalized.
SimpliSafe has done nothing and offered no accommodation. They agreed to a refund for the stolen base "if I sent it back".
Pretty much lousy company management.
HORRIBLE NIGHTMARE
HORRIBLE! They keep waking me up with urgent alarms for a previous address. Since I can’t “validate” with current safe word they can’t do anything. I had police sent over for a welfare check at the previous address and they said the owner claimed that they were not paying for SimpliSafe Monitoring. Yet I continue to get audible beeping on my phone when alarms go off when I’m sick & sleeping and during performances where my phone is silenced. I spent most of game 4 of the World Series chatting with SimpliSafe and will do nothing since I can’t validate the safe word for the email address of new owner. They flat out refused to contact the new owner to try to resolve this.
Yet if I want to return my current system from my new address, I can do that until 12 PM midnight tonight. I’ve been woken up 3x by emergency alarms from old address when my phone was silenced in the last two days. I’ve been a customer for four years, but this is enough for me.
Unless you pay for a subscription useless …
Unless you pay for a subscription Simplysafe is pretty useless. You won’t get notifications of doors opened or alarm status change, like if someone disarms the system and enters your place.
This is the most dishonest company I…
This is the most dishonest company I have ever experienced. Month after month of promises that are never realized. Three months of waiting on a Visa gift card that mysteriously still has not been mailed. Customer service is often confused, unable to share company protocol and more lies. Stay away from this company, they are not honest.
Low quality app and doorbell camera
I wake up to 6+ notifications from my Doorbell Video Pro that there is motion outside every morning. Half the videos don't work. The other half, there's nothing going on. When the Internet goes out, the home base chimes literally every 10 seconds and doesn't stop until the Internet is reconnected. There's no way to turn it off, no buttons on it, goes to backup battery if I unplug it, it just keeps going off. I think a lot of the system is probably fine, but the doorbell is not high enough quality to be outside and the app is gimmicky. As a basic security system without the camera and app (that is *not free*), the rest works pretty smoothly.
Scummy unethical company
Their advertising suggests no requirement for a monitoring plan if you just want a system that will notify you of someone entering your space along with a siren to scare them off. Monitoring is useless in my city because the police take close to an hour to respond to an alarm. After I set up the system, I opened the app and the only way I could arm and disarm remotely was by agreeing to a monitoring plan. I then had to spend 30 minutes on the phone with various Simplisafe people enduring their hard sale tactics in order to remove the monitoring plan and use the free plan which does allow for remote arming and disarming with the app. Requiring customers to call in to change their plan is highly unethical.
I read yesterday that the FTC just passed a rule that is going to require all businesses to allow for one click changes and cancellations to their online services. That sucks for unethical companies like simplisafe.
Had SimpliSafe for a couple years and…
Had SimpliSafe for a couple years and it’s mostly great except the cameras love to just randomly drop connection at the worst times, and are a pain to get reconnected, and then often will not stay reconnected until like a day later when the issue randomly resolves itself. It just happens completely out of the blue, maybe like every other month or something. And they’re happy to keep raising the price of their services, but they never actually fix anything.
