Initially great. Stopped working and now impossible to cancel.
Was initially a good option because I read some reviews that were encouraging. I had to hire someone to install the system because it was more complicated than I expected it to be. It initially worked, but then the cameras stopped working, the sensors stopped working one by one until now, when it does not monitor anything. To get this fixed, I would have to hire someone to handle it. I now just want out and they have made it almost impossible between emails sending me to the phone, waiting on hold, waiting until the office is open, having layers and layers of required codes and safe words. I just want out and now I have to wait for this to be escalated. I have been trying to cancel for six weeks and the system hasn't been fully functional for months.
SimpliSafe started out a great option…
SimpliSafe started out a great option but I really regret investing in this security system. Customer service has not been helpful and I called to cancel the service and they first didn’t cancel it, without telling me they just moved my subscription down to a lower level. Then when I did finally get someone to cancel it for me they completely took out my account so that I can’t even view my own doorbell camera so it is now useless. It has been infuriating working with them the last 4 months with different issues coming up. I think it’s a better investment to just go with a trusted company like ADP or do it on your own with Ring.
Horrible system, don't buy
I don't know who actually wrote the other reviews for SimpliSafe. I've owned mine for over a year now, I had to get cameras and batteries replaced, still a battery will not last. I have the solar panels, still no good. I do have one camera that I've only had to replace the battery once, but I still did not expect to spend my time going up and down ladders to try to get the system to work. The indoor camera does not sense anything, it's in my garage and opening the garage door and parking a car does not activate the camera, the only way to do it, is to watch it live. Horrible system, don't waste your time and money
Junk
The system was initially very easy to setup. After that, everything is downhill.
#1 the cameras are ridiculously expensive. $200+ for a camera you can buy on Amazon for $35
#2 the entire system is very slow. Don't expect to actually use the app to view any motion on the camera. By the time it boots up, whatever motion was detected will be long gone. My $35 Amazon camera works far better (and records motion with no monthly fee - and actually has options for recording unlike this camera)
#3 expect everything to need constant maintenance. It seems like every week I have a sensor that stops connecting, a keypad that won't turn on, a base that needs an update, an app that has to be updated, a camera that won't connect, etc. etc. It is such a pain in the neck to maintain that we hardly use it.
#4 DO NOT RELY ON THIS SYSTEM. because there are constant problems, there is a good chance that if anything actually goes wrong (an intruder breaks in, the basement floods, the temp goes down, or a fire breaks out) this system will be offline at the time.
Here is the list of components that broke in less than two years:
- three outdoor cameras
- two indoor cameras
- 11 entry sensors
- 2 water sensors
- 1 smoke detector
- 1 temp sensor
- 1 siren
- 2 keypads
And a partridge in a pear tree...
Save yourself the time, money, and hassle.
Bad customer service
They do not like to cancel service. And wouldn't go through with it!
Nope
Nope. Hidden fees terrible service
Typical corporate price gouging!
After being loyal Simpli-Safe customers for over ten years, our monitoring charge suddenly doubled without any warning or permission. Meanwhile our monitoring service has not changed or improved. We still have no security monitoring when the Wi-Fi signal goes down (which it often does). This is just typical price-gouging by a corporation, like so many since the pandemic. So much for "Customer Loyalty"! Shame on you!
Self monitoring customers beware
Purchased over a year ago and at the time I could self monitor and receive push alerts/notifications via a text. This was one of the main reasons I liked the system. I still think simpisafe is a good alarm system. The system was easy to install and activate through our app. I recently was notified of a system update, on the key pad, and installed it. After the install I immediately noticed I was no longer receiving push notifications on my phone. This meant that I no longer received text alerts for activations, deactivations or system issues. After spending an hour on the phone with their help center, I was told that simplisafe removed that feature and I would now have to pay for a plan to get them back. The agent was hard to understand and transferred me to a supervisor who basically told me the same thing and said there was nothing else he could do. Simplisafe changed the rules for those customers who purchased the system under an old plan and now want customers to pay for a plan. So wrong. Bad business Simplisafe
I wish I picked a different alarm company
I've almost always had issues with customer service at SimpliSafe but today was the worst. After going through several tests with a tech on the phone she told me to remove and re-add 4 devices whose batteries were low and were no longer responding. Really? In 2024? The code for each is in the base station...but their software can't just clear the error by sending the code to the base after replacing the battery? Not according to their tech.
Well then, how about spending some of their customer fees on upgrading the software? In 3 years I only recall one software update, two at the most and nothing that seems to me to have improved the service. Reconnecting cameras is an even crazier routine if they lose power. And don't tell me it's due to distance from the router. Mine are no more the 30 feet away from routers I connect to from 150+ feet.
This is NOT an inexpensive service, in fact, the monthly fees are high. And 2-year battery life!...I have at least 25 sensors in 2 houses. These flat batteries are not cheap either and I'm replacing several every month and having to go through this ridiculous reconnection process.
I wish I had picked a different service, one that doesn't require you to do the maintenance yourself or where doing that came at a lower price than the rip-off artists at SimpliSafe.
SimpliSafe Simply Sucks!!!
App always has to be updated and logs you out constantly so you have to log back in with every alert? I have high speed internet and this system is slow. The customer service department at SimplySafe said I need to upgrade my equipment that is fairly new. I will buy another system from another company instead.
It works, but still has some bugs and flaws.
We've had this system for over 5 years now, so we have a lot of experience living with it. Negatives first: 1: It is impossible to delete blocks of stored videos from your cameras. It is unfathomable to me that the most basic function of marking and bulk deleting large blocks of videos does not exist in this system. We are well into the 21st century, and the app seems like it's still in alpha release. 2: The base station drops its wifi connection multiple times per week, and sends me a text about the event, so at least I have a record of it. The base station is 7 feet away from my wifi router, and the dozen other things that connect to it from all over the house are just fine. It's connected on the 2.4GHz band, and that's the band that can penetrate walls and floors with little difficulty. I've even gone so far as to reserve its IP address in my router, so it's not competing with anything else for attention. I have a lot of failed videos from my video doorbell because of that. The frequent drops make me less than confident that I have a great system. 3: The company recently introduced automatic scheduling of system arming and disarming, but who on this earth has such a rigid schedule that they would allow the system to arm or disarm itself every day, regardless of whether anybody is still in the house or not? That seems to be a lot of wasted developer time, which could have been better spent on improving basic functionality and system reliability. 4: The video doorbell frequently fails to record complete videos, and it's just 8 feet away from my router. There is a glass side-panel right next to the doorbell, and the exterior wall is standard wood with vinyl siding, so I can't believe there's a wifi problem on my end (especially since we get 100% reliable wifi upstairs through a floor much further away.) 5: The monthly monitoring charge is pricey in my opinion, but once you've invested in a whole-house system, it's not cost-effective to scrap it just to save $5 or $10/month in monitoring fees. Now some positives: 1: The base station has a SIM card built in, so it always has a way of communicating with the company's monitoring system if the alarm is triggered. I like that it has two ways (wifi and cellular data) to communicate with the service. 2: The Android app has a convenient widget that I can place on my home screen on my phone, where I can arm and disarm the system remotely with just a tap. The app also lets you view the collected videos from motion events, and with the video doorbell you can converse remotely with a person who has just pressed the doorbell button (assuming the video connection is working at the moment.) When a package arrives and the delivery person sets it on the step, the motion sensing lets me know, and I can look at the video through my phone and see who was there and what they were doing. 3: Customer service is responsive and always picks up promptly when I call, and they are helpful, but on the flip side, I really shouldn't have to call customer service more than once per year or so. The bottom line for us is, we'll keep the system until we move, but when we do, we will abandon the system and leave it for the new homeowners, and we'll shop around for better functionality and more reasonable monthly fees.
Worst customer Service ever!
Worst customer Service ever!! They are thieves at this point. returned their equipment several weeks ago and promised a refund every day. They are unable to process it for whatever reason now supposedly going to send me a check and saying that could take a month. their system is very easily hacked by criminals, using a seven dollar transmitter off Amazon. I would normally not do this but they left me no choice. I just wanted my money back as they’ve received their equipment but now I have nothing I’m going to put bad reviews everywhere I possibly can and report them to the Better Business bureau, and everyone else every day until I get my money. Plenty of YouTube videos showing how easy their system is hacked.
They are not professional
They are not professional. The lady a talked too was rude and she gave me the wrong advice. Stay away!!
Deceptive practices
Deceptive practices, I wanted to replace my first SimpliSafe system that the company made obsolete by changing how the sensors work. The new system was supposed to cost about $350, with a month of free monitoring and a free indoor camera, neither of which i wanted. They wanted me to enter a credit card for monitoring service which I would not do. I called them back and told them to cancel the order when they raised the cost $50 for not wanting the "free" month of monitoring. I again called and told them to cancel the new system. Several days later I got a shipping information received email without tracking (not shipped), I called again and told them to cancel the order. Then a week later I got an out for delivery notice from FedEx. Stay clear of SimpliSafe.
Forget the Crooks outside the…
Forget the Crooks outside the house...the real threat is Simplisafe themselves. I bought the system. Never hooked it up after plugging in just the base unit. Then Found out they were charging me monthly for monitoring just because I called for help when I opened the box. I cancelled the service. Told them I don't have it installed, don't use it, etc. They "refunded" me 6 months of payments. THEN I look at my cc statement three months later and they're still charging me monthly becasue I didn't pull the plug out of the base unit. So they continued to charge me..even after refunding 6 months and supposedly cancelling my service. Here's a tip: With SimpliSafe, The crooks are in the house!! Outside the house is not the problem. In fact, if the crooks do break in, there won't be any money left because SimplySafe already got it by hitting your credit card again and again and again even after you cancel the service.
I purchased the system with the…
I purchased the system with the agreement of canceling within three days if I didn’t want central monitoring service. I canceled in 48 hours. Despite canceling I was still charged 29.99 ….when I called to have it corrected they did everything possible to make it difficult. I have still not gotten the credit after 10 days. Once again, I have to call customer service.::: I believe this is an intentional tactic. Adding insulted injury after one week the indoor camera failed. Again, I had to call customer service to send me a new one….after spending a half hour on the phone with a customer service rep. Then the outdoor camera was constantly detecting motion when there was absolutely no movement near the camera. This went on for days and ran the battery down, despite having the setting at medium for motion detection. The customer service representatives read from a manual and cannot understand half of what is communicated because of language barriers, pitiful service….. I’m sending the entire system back for a refund.
none of five cameras work
Condo association purchased a system with five cameras after being reassured that the system would work in our building. None of the five cameras have been working. Call to tech assistance not helpful.
Traded my old simply safe system to the…
Traded my old simply safe system to the new gen3 system and now it will not activate because it needs wifi to work. This is a stand alone system out in the shop that has no wifi connection. The old gen1 system at least did work but not the new one. So now stuck with a bunch of useless crap that that does not work.
Not very user friendly or useful
Leaving 1 star review because I genuinely am shocked that there's no doorbell sound notification on the app when someone rings, you just get a message pop up, same as when there's motion activity. This is a very basic function of all the alarm systems and the fact this is missing is a big problem for me.
Am looking into alternatives as paying £24.99 per month on top of the intial costs when I'm not getting a full service is very grating. There are also constant problems with using the app to update your motion sensor zones and this not updating properly,
The only good thing about Simplisafe is the customer service and technical staff who are wonderful. But the product is crap
Terrible company
Terrible company. AVOID. Simplisafe is not an innovative company, and is very poorly operated. This company will lock you into a proprietary system while maintaining stagnation (poor innovation within their operating market). Technical Support is commonly mediocre at best, as they lack competency in their own products. I highly recommend avoiding this company.
Misleading and Illegal Advertising
SimpliSafe is engaging in misleading and illegal advertising practices. They advertise a 60% off on their website but only offer 20% and a free camera in cart. They claim the promotion is over despite continuing to advertise it. They also send out 40% off mailers with a QR code that links to the regular website and the 60% off bait and switch.
No sense of urgency or care for customers
Just an awful experience. CS people were supportive but they could only do so much. I had placed my order on a Tuesday asking for expedited shipping next day. Our tires were slashed and our house was under threat due to family ex-boyfriend. We needed security yesterday.
On Wed when it was to ship their system cancelled it. I called spent hours on the phone making them all aware it needs to ship today. Again had to place an order to find out the next day their system cancelled it again. Same thing, taking time out of my work day to spend hours on the phone with them to find out their computer system was glitching and cancelling orders at will.
Finally got an order through on Friday. I again made it clear to them I had someone re-scheduled to install it Saturday and it HAD TO BE sent overnight weekend delivery which I know can be done with FedEx as I ship items myself and that I needed to feel secure in my own home. Guess what - they of course did not care and sent it for delivery for weekday only.
I called up ADT and got someone in my house in less than 12 hours. Received their box and returned it the next day. I tracked the shipment. They received it. >1week and still did not issue a credit. Had to call again asking where was my refund for unopened box that was returned.
Now 4 months later they try charging me $30 for services. WHAT SERVICES???? I don't have an active account with you all. CS again very nice, but Rhiann in billing department just awful. Full on attitude.
Well sorry I'm upset that you are billing me for services that I am not using and no I do not remember the "safe word" nor have your app because I am NOT using you.
Just absolutely awful experience. Outside of CS, everyone else is rude. Do not recommend unless you don't need major home security and just want bad service from their other departments.
Don’t trust the customer service reps
I called to downgrade to self monitoring, which the customer service person said they would do. Turns out, they downgraded me to standard monitoring, which I only found out after the overcharged transaction hit my checking account, because there was no confirmation email sent. Chatted with a representative online and they said the only way to fix it is to call again on the phone. So to recap, I was lied to, stolen from, and given the runaround. Why isn’t there a way to change my account and have a record of the change? Why do I have to call and wait on hold for an unknown amount of time to make a change? This company uses underhanded tactics to get more money out of people who don’t want the service.
Feel robbed without security
Feel robbed without security. Camera constantly off line, battery life 1/4 of what was advertised. I own this equipment and its useless to me. The advertised price was 1/2 what i actually paid each month. Not worth the mony. Do your research. Was easy to cancel, not as easy to get a one month refund for a system that didnt work as advertised. The least they could do is hold a gun to my head while they extract money from me
It took over 3 months to cancel
We initially attempted to cancel our SimpliSafe service online in late September, and it was still charged that month.
When we reached out to get the charge reversed, the customer service representative transferred the call to a different department, and the call dropped. When we saw the charge was reversed on our end, my wife and I assumed that meant the service had been cancelled as requested.
It was not, and we received a charge the following month. We reached out again online and then received a follow up call, which I missed because it was in the middle of a work day. When I attempted to call back at the number provided in the voicemail, I heard an automated message saying the number was disconnected, and the call was then dropped. I attempted to call that number back several times and received the same message.
I received two more voicemails from SimpliSafe over the next month, each leaving the same number that did not go anywhere.
We then decided our only course of action was to reach out to our credit card company to stop the charges. We were able to do that, but then SimpliSafe reached out (not to us) but to the credit card company and had the charges reinstated.
At that point, our Credit Card company provided us the customer support email address of SimpliSafe which they had used to contact our credit card company. I emailed them and explained this entire situation, and received a message back telling me they couldn’t do anything and I had to reach out to a 1-800 number. When I called the 1-800 number provided, it rang, gave me an automated message about the call being recorded and then the call dropped. Finally when I redialed the number I was able to get in touch with someone, told them the entire story, and they immediately cancelled our service and refunded the charges dating back to September (3 months of charges).
I am glad I finally was able to get in touch with someone, but going back and forth, reaching out to SimpliSafe through their website, a phone call, customer support chat on their website, our credit card company, an email address, and finally another phone number over the span of 3 months in order to cancel is absolutely insane, and I would warn anyone considering this service that they are a scam. They continue to raise prices, they make it almost impossible to cancel, and then when you do cancel the professional monitoring service, you have very limited functionality on the devices that you purchased from them and supposedly own.
I would recommend anyone considering SimpliSafe to look for another home security option. This one is an absolute nightmare.
