Unethical immoral behavior by agent
I experienced absolutely unacceptable unethical and immoral behavior by the agent, JC, who lied about canceling pro monitoring when I called on 1/19/26. I explained very clearly that I did not have a proper monitoring certificate and he decided to lie about canceling it when it was not. The company has confirmed they will do nothing and actually encourage this type of behavior.
Disappointed with customer service
Very happy with the system and the 1 month free trial. I wanted a system as a deterant. When I called to cancel my subscription the man on the phone was very rude. He went on and on about different subscriptions. Eventually I asked to speak to a manager as I just wanted to cancel. He dismissed this and and continued with his subscription sh#t. I again interrupted him and asked how long this would take. His reply was " if you hadn't interrupted me we'd be finished by now" This properly wound me up and is the reason why I'm not recommending due to poor customer service.

I have been a SimpliSafe customer since 2020 and have paid for a subscription plan continuously during that time. When I originally purchased the system, I spent over $1,000, so I expected reliable performance for the cost.
Unfortunately, the camera reliability has been extremely disappointing. I have five cameras, and approximately 90% of the time they fail to trigger or send alerts. The only camera that consistently activates is the indoor camera that is plugged into the wall, and even that one is unreliable at times when someone enters the house. While I understand the cameras are older, they have never performed consistently since installation.
Today, after realizing how much I’ve been paying over the years for a system that barely works, I called to switch back to basic app monitoring. During that call, when I declined an offer to continue the subscription with three free months, the representative deleted and deactivated my account entirely. As a result, I lost access to the app.
I then had to call back, provide all of my information again, add a new payment method, and have my account reactivated—only to find that I now need to set up my entire system from scratch.
After six years as a paying customer, this experience was extremely frustrating and disappointing. Between the unreliable equipment and the poor handling of my account cancellation, I cannot recommend SimpliSafe based on my experience.

Problem with the Lock and Fob
I have had a problem with my Lock and have called them more than once. The Lock either does not lock or does not unlock and it usually happens when I am on my way to church. They want me to call when it is not working and obviously, I cannot take the time to call.
My Fob has not worked for months and it is a job to call them. They either hang up on me or they ask a question and it takes them a while to answer me, once I give the the answer to their question.
Cameras never connect
Cameras never connect, they never record, always disconnected from the internet, never able to live view when I need to. 95% of the time all cameras disconnected from internet and fail to record anything yet it says they did. Doors sensors always disconnect. Outdoor camera fails consistently. Had to move it indoors just to loose connectivity. I hope the fire alarm works. Can't depend on simplesafe cameras to stay connected. I had to buy a closed circuit system just to monitor simplesafe cameras
This company provides faulty equipment and will not offer refunds as promised.
This company is a scam. I ordered 15 products. 25% of them did not work or pair with the system. They replaced the items at no cost, then the base station started malfunctioning about 60 days in and would alarm in the middle of the night and start saying loudly that it was disconnected. I tried to cancel the service and send the equipment back. They asked me to be patient and said would extend my warranty as long as needed if I worked with them and if I was not happy they would fully refund me. I got the new base station and in the next 60 days it started to do the same thing. I finally called to cancel and they would not honor the agreement even through there were notes in the system and the record of me calling a dozen times with issues. They would not take the equipment back and would not offer me a refund. Do not use this company. Their equipment is not dependable and they do not stand behind it.

Everything about this system is mediocre. It barely operates as stated and all the troubleshooting is done via their app. Until you want to cancel the core monitoring service. Then they want to speak to you. I’m so frustrated like rip and replace . Buyer beware.
Such a headache.. always an issue
I’ve had Simplisafe for a couple of years and there has always been an issue with either my smart locks or the doorbell camera. The straw that broke the camel’s back for me was getting locked out of my home in the middle of the night when arriving home from traveling all week. My smart lock would not respond to me entering my code nor using the app to tap unlock. I couldn’t unlock it. On my Simplisafe app, it did not show there were any technical issues going on with the smart lock (which is actually rare). I called Simplisafe for tech support that night, but OF COURSE I was on hold for at least 30-40 minutes before anyone picked up - this is a common occurrence with them. The representative could not figure out what was going on with my smart lock and therefore advised me to find a locksmith and send them the invoice for possible reimbursement. I had to sleep at my parents’ home that night and found a locksmith the next morning who was able to open my door. I called Simplisafe (stayed on hold for forever) and was unfortunately denied reimbursement. I cancelled my subscription due to this and the fact that their system is a headache in general. I preferred to just move on. The cost for Simplisafe is good for a reason - you get what you pay for. I would not recommend this company.

I started using Simplisafe in 2018. I found it unreliable as the sensors worked occasionally but not always and it did not leave me feeling more secure. In 2021, I decided to try it again in a different house. It worked okay, but the indoor camera stopped connecting to the internet within a year. I used a different outdoor camera system which did not have any issues connecting, but once again with Simplisafe, the sensors only worked occasionally. I brought the system to my new home in 2024, and within a year all 3 new cameras I purchased no longer connect to the internet. Simplisafe says its the connection yet every single other device I own connects without issue. Now the doorbell camera I purchased, which is wired in, will no longer connect either, and I am beyond done with Simplisafe. They say its your connection causing issues but somehow every other computer, tv, smart device, etc manages to connect without a problem. I only recommend Simplisafe if you enjoy wasting money. I have tried it in 3 locations with 3 different internet companies with the same results.
Don’t buy their video doorbell Pro. It’s absolute rubbish.
Don’t buy their video doorbell pro under any circumstances. They’ve asked me to change my network password just for this. They say I can’t use any special characters but everything on Wifi would need to change and for a security device to have to ask this is frankly insecure not to have special characters. It’s cost a fortune to install as it’s not worked since I bought in October and they now say it’s not able to be refunded. Everything else I have bought is great and easy to install. They need to change this awful device. Going to have to buy Ring doorbell. Useless and more expense. Don’t blame customers. Your awful device is at fault.
Took away a feature I originally paid for.
I installed my system a few years back and was happy with almost everything. I even upgraded to the new system when the old one became (obsolete). Wasn't too happy about that. I never added the monitoring as I only wanted to use the history feature when a camera was tripped so I could see what tripped it and decide on my own what action to take. Just recently they changed and I can no longer review what tripped the alarm which was the reason I originally purchased this system. Now when I select history all I see is their pop up telling me I can unlock the advanced feature like camera recording for $32.99 a month which I don't need or want. I feel like they should let me be grandfathered in on that feature having already spent over $1,300 on my system. I liken it to renting a two bedroom apartment and then having the landlord later say you can't use one of the bedrooms unless you pay rent on it from this point on. Shouldn't we get what we originally paid for?

My camera was working fine when I contacted Simplisafe. This to ensure not being charged monthly the $32. The representative offered a $9.00 self monitoring then deleted my camera from working in the Simplisafe system. Now I'll have to start all over with an installation and hopefully that works. Because Simplisafe Technicians can't undo what the customer service person did. Totally unacceptable..

Numerous Rate Hikes and Malfunctioning Equipment
They lure you in with low monitoring rates and then increase them significantly and repeatedly. They do this after you have invested substantial money in their equipment. It is a sneaky and dishonest tactic. Also, I have had several false alarms in the middle of the night due to malfunctioning equipment. Their response was that sometimes that just happens.

I had to return the equipment within 15 days because Simplisafe lied. A portion of the equipment I purchased was wired for the exterior cameras, & their 3rd party pro-installation vendor does not install anything hard wired.

This is THE absolute biggest waste of time and money. Unfortunately I moved into an area that requires I have security cameras (think murder/stabbings/gun fire within 20 feet of my house - welcome to downtown Renton!). I had to install a back-up system (Wyze - which I would absolutely recommend) because Simplisafe disconnected regularly. And I read another review that said they blame it on wifi, my home system, ... interestingly, I've never had an issue with Wyze. Hmmm. Simplisafe's advertising is completely false - they have missed a few major events that happened at my house...and because I don't have it on film - have no proof of 'who'. I have the 'evidence' of what happened. So spend a few extra dollars - get Wyze. And don't burden yourself with the pathetic excuses Simplisafe seems to have written in a script for their 'customer service' people.

I purchased my system because the company says you can monitor month by month and cancel and restart at any time. Sounds great right? I set up my system and it was working fine. I had my free month of service and kept it for two months after. Then I decided I would cancel it until I was going to do more traveling. By canceling I mean unmonitored. But the devices should still work right? That’s what I asked and I was assured yes they would still work. I got off of the phone with the rep and went about my day. A week later I was wondering why my camera wasn’t picking up anyone in front of my door. I went to the app and my whole system was wiped out. What a scam. I have been able to get the base station finally connected but only through the keypad. But my camera isn’t connecting. I’m charging the camera hoping that’s the problem. Their devices are not cheap. And they lie about the month to month deal. If you don’t monitor through them they have the ability to wipe your whole set up. I will be calling them in the morning and speaking with a manager about this. And then I will look up consumer complaints with my state and report them for unethical tactics. Do not fall for this scam.

False claims of battery life
Avoid. Got this for outdoor cams. Battery life advertised as 3-6months. I think we got about 8 weeks once in height of summer. Now down to 2 weeks. System was installed in April 25. Contacted them to cancel monthly plan and for refund. They don’t want to know.
Simplisafe is a Terrible System
I purchased two Simplisafe systems for my house (summer 2025) and a rental house (summer 2024). The first system I installed at the rental house started off fine then after a couple months the things started to quit working. "Sensor Not Responding", Base Station Not Responding" and "WiFi to Base Station Lost" constantly several times a day. I called Simplisafe and they eventually sent a new base station as they said they have had had problems with them. I received the new base station and reset everything up while on the phone for an hour with Simplisafe tech support who barely spoke english. It worked for a week or so then and the same problems continues to occur. Simplisafe was never able to resolve the problem so my tenant said they did not want to deal with it or pay for monitoring on a system that doesn't work. Can't blame them. Now the system just sits and is not being used. Waste of my money.
I stupidly bought a second system during the week the system was working at the rental house and I'm having the same problem as the rental house system. I call customer support and run through the same troubleshooting stuff with them and they reset the system and hopefully it works for 24 hours, it doesn't.
This review is from November 2025. Simplisafe's customer support is USELESS. One day I spoke to eight different people and got different recommendations from each person. Replace batteries, don't replace batteries, rechargeable batteries, your internet needs to be a certain type call your internet provider, need to update your software, need to replace the base station, etc. Two calls were dropped. One resulted in them sending me to a third party service company who wanted $150 to come look at the system. Is a very frustrating process. All this for a brand new system out of the box.
Then they set me up on a Core Monitoring plan for $35/month that I never signed up for. All I signed up for was app based monitoring. Don't make the same mistake I made, twice!!

SimpliSafe is really a scam of a service. The device really does not work very well and the company will employ every tactic possible to try to scam you and keep you going with the subscription. Give you big discount to stay but won't tell you it is only good for 1 month or 3 month. Then the fee spikes up hoping you will not notice the increase. What a terrible way to run a business. You sell and charge for what customers actually want, not what you think you can scam and get away with.
