Mediocre quality & pricing
Outdoor cameras are poor quality for this day and age. Constant slow & weird connection issues.
Unbeleivable deals are given to new customers, while existing customers always pay retail pricing to expand their system. During black friday, new customers get 60% off + a free doorbell cam. Absolutely NO discounts for those of us who have been subscibers for years. This price structure feels predatory. I'll be phasing into a Ring system over the next few years unless they make some positive changes.
Good luck cancelling
Good luck cancelling. There is no way to cancel online, so I called in. They said it was cancelled and so it was.. until they started up the charge again for no reason many months later. So I cancelled it again, got a refund through my cc. Give it a few more months, and here comes in the charge again! They are relentless. Don't get started with them.
Sensors continually fall offline
I have had the sensors continually go offline. I have had the system 1 year and have called in to reset the system 6 times!!! I left out of town and they were off line the whole time. What good is a security system if it continually needs reset manually, even if you call in, you have to physical be there to reset buttons! It looks like a cheap and affordable security system, but I cannot recommend this company.
Useful if you need support 5+ hours later
I've been a customer for a long time now as I assumed the monitoring would be effective and actioned quickly. Turns out I've been wasting my money and look forward to deactivating and switching to a better supplier ASAP. The latest reason is a security guard showing up 5 hours after an alarm was set off. At that rate I could get somebody to fly over from another country to investigate an intrusion. They used to be much better but I think the latest reviews are a reflection of how far they have fallen.
5 outdoor cameras and they all have same issue.
We have $1000 in outdoor cameras alone, 5 cameras at $200 a piece. EVERY SINGLE CAMERA has had charging connection issues. We had a actual security system professional come look at the cameras and he pointed out how they are using micro USB charger which are outdated and notorious for having connection issues. Trying to deal with simplisafe customer service about the issues is a horrendous experience.
Doing what they can to rip you off
The problem with SimpliSafe, like many large corporations that autobill, is that they do whatever they can to take your money, upcharge you, and make it difficult to cancel. If you cancel on 25th of the month, but they charged your account on the 23rd they are "unable to refund you for the month" - Really? so you "have to" charge me for your service that I am no longer using? Typical corporate nonsense. For the record, I don't care about the $22.50 or whatever it is they are charging -it's the principal - bad business ethics. Ring is a much better product.
Purchased an alarm system with them…
Purchased an alarm system with them easy to install and set up but there are issues. On two seperat occasion I forgot to turn off the alarm and it did not trigger (at this point we don't know how long the system was not working). I contacted customer service and had to reset and link them back to the home base one by one. The conversation I had with them as if they don't care about your property and possession stating "it would of been and unfortunate event if my house was broken into if the system wasn't working at the time."
The glass break sensor is not what is advertised only triggering if it is a glass break, it is not true because the vaccum triggers it, even when my baby is crying triggers it.
Can't return for a refund because the window of returning it is gone so I am stuck with it.
Terrible
I had a SimpliSafe home security system installed two years ago. In the two years I've had, the cameras work probably 5% of the time. My system was professionally installed and the cameras are wireless (solar). All of my cameras stay well charged, probably because they're never busy recording anything. The installer even had me purchase a Google Nest wifi extender - it makes no difference. Out of my five cameras, at least one is always down, inexplicably. They literally record next to nothing. I live across the street from a school - my doorbell camera hasn't recorded anything for two days and my front yard camera hasn't recorded anything for a day. Again, I live across the street from a school - there's movement, lots of it. I've checked my settings and that's not the problem - the problem is, these are the most garbage cameras ever. If cameras are a big reason why you're considering SimpliSafe, you will be sorely disappointed in your purchase. Maybe 1% of the time, I can turn on a camera for a live view - the rest of the time it will say the camera is disconnected, even though it's not (it's on and the status is good). By the way, this isn't a new problem - it's sucked this bad for the whole two years. $1000+ absolutely wasted.
Operate like extortionists
These guys act like just corporate scammers. First, quality of video is so poor. I only use them because I inherited it from my landlord. It was so easy for me to sign up and add my card details for the trial run but when it was time to cancel, they said I had to call and pass security checks. What rubbish. My landlord and I have tried to change details but there response have been so slow and they even tried charging me but I made sure to move all funds from my account to avoid being scammed. Summary, if I can sign up with my card details with the push of a button without security checks, why do I need to call and pass security checks to cancel.
It’s a scam
If you are someone with real security concerns, I would say don’t waste your time with Simplisafe. The representative told me they offer free installation when there is an urgent security issue, so I bought the system, only to have her tell me (after my system already arrived) they don’t offer free installation after all and I have to use a third party to install. I’m now stuck in the usual cycle of useless and unhelpful sales reps trying to get my money refunded so I can spend it on a more reliable company.
SimpliSafe is Garbage
SimpliSafe? More like Simpli*Scam*. My $250 alarm system screamed like a banshee on meth—not at burglars, but at *me* trying to unplug it. Customer "service"? Some drone named Kevin told me, *"Sir, have you tried turning it off and on?"* while the infernal beeping drowned out my will to live. Couldn't return it because the box shrieked louder than my divorce lawyer. Now it guards my trash can. Five stars if you enjoy paying to torture yourself.
Horrible camera system
For the most part, the security system is good. It's functional and it's easy to install. The security cameras they offer are a completely different story. Their cameras are horrible, poor reception and more lost video than captured events.
Scam
This company's services are a scam. We used simplisafe recording for years. Now we are canceling our service and they are locking us out of our system entirely. Can no longer view camera recordings or anything.
It is a scam company
It is a scam company. I just want to use it's free plan to use the camera but they do not allow and ask me to activate the plan first to do it. On my account, it was showing 3 months free monitoring so I activated and cancel in a day but they charge me $6.13. When I called them they are saying , it is a pro rated charge. It is truly a scam business
Not a great start!
I haven’t even received my order and already there’s a problem. Ordered my products with no issue but three days on I’ve not received a confirmation email so no idea when package to arrive and any other information I may need. I’ve rang twice and both times they’ve said we’ve sent it… I’m still waiting
Scam artists
Quality of videos same as cheaper competitors.
Found after the purchase to save video recording I have to spend $10 per month. This was never advertised and is a big scam.
Customer service is garbage.
Customer service is garbage.
Customer service misleads their customers. Does not monitor service.
System worked well until I moved. Simplisafe offered to give me time to transfer system to new home and still keep original warranty etc. I accepted additional time but was told last chance would be July. Simplisafe started taking $ out of credit card account with no permission to start. No bill, invoices, notifications. Three months with the system inert and no notification from Simplisafe. Would think a security system would detect that it was not working after three months and the company would contact the customer.
The system is falling apart
The system is falling apart. The sensors malfunction one after another but the technicians at customer service were unable to fix the problem. I have this Simple Safe for many years, and it worked well. Two - three years ago they replaced the equipment with new gadgets and troubles begun. At this moment I have two sensors malfunctioned! Useless to call their customer service. They are not very competent. After their repair the system will work for a few days and then stop again. I better cancel Simply Safe service and replace everything.
Do not trust this company
Do not trust this company. Once you sign up they make it almost impossible to cancel and they keep charging you.
Has anyone in the UK successfully…
Has anyone in the UK successfully installed Simplisafe Doorbell? My very capable electrician tried three times trying to install their doorbell and cannot stop the chime buzzing. My next door even complained about the noise. Everytime, we speak to the technical support, they either come up with yet another work around /blame the 3rd party component or blame the installation. I spent about £400 getting nowhere. Which Consumer Association should not recommend this device.
Keep your family safe
Horrible company and horrible customer service!! I had at my office and at my home. I would never recommend or use. You can never talk to anyone. I have had the same problem for years. The only person I am allowed to speak to is A.I. Worthless!! One time my alarm went off and they ended up calling the wrong family and sending the police to the wrong house.
Time for improvements
I’ve been with Simplisafe for a little under 6 months. Overall I would say I’m pleased with this system for what it is but disappointed for what it could be but isn’t.
For starters, the base station on these systems do not have what I consider to be a proper smash protection protocol, this means that during the entry delay while it’s still plugged to the wall an intruder can located the base station and break it before it goes into alarm and the monitoring station will not receive the signal. The only protection the base station has to my knowledge is if the entry delay is counting down and the base station looses power (Unplugged). They also don’t recommend to hide the base station due to signal concerns which already would put the brains of the system in a disadvantage. There doesn’t seem to be an urgent need to patch this while other providers have done so for quite some time now.
Second, it is my opinion that the latest generation of this system is already outdated especially when compared to other DIY providers.
Third, certain alerts from the base station are just not loud enough to be heard even within the same floor of a home and auxiliary sirens do not relay these alerts (Medical, temperature).
Fourth, releases of new life safety sensors has been essentially null. This system doesn’t have panic pendants, garage sensors, heat detectors for attics or kitchens nor does it have different options of panics on the keypad.
Fifth, video verification (different from intruder intervention) does not work over the base station therefore if the homes internet connection is down the agent will not be able to see what is happening to request faster police response.
Sixth, Simplisafe loves to put their branding on outdoor equipment. If you’re looking to hide your systems brand to prevent intruders from knowing which frequencies to jam you will need to take extra steps to hide the logo. Not a big issue but okay..
Seven, price increase for monitoring service. I understand companies need to adapt for inflation and operations. But increasing pricing for consumers especially for those who just purchased this proprietary no contract system and are past the return period is of bad taste. It’s not like the system is able to be used with a different provider.
Eighth, Monitoring is fast, I am glad to know that during a panic alarm the monitoring will call quick (which is different from a burglary which has an entry delay, alarm cancellation delay and any other steps that are enabled by the user which can influence the response time meaning the time the agent takes to make verbal contact with a person) however, during my accidental alarm activation the agent proceeded to ask me if I’m so and so and then provide details that can delay emergency response such as my full address.
How about, “Hi this is Monitoring station Mr or Mrs so & so. We received a panic activation is everything okay?”
“Customer response.”
“Just to confirm this is for (insert residence address or residence name) everything is okay?”
“Customer response”
“Wonderful we will go ahead and cancel what is your safe word?”
Nine, this system doesn’t have guest code capabilities or limited access for app users. You will need to manually add and delete as needed. Any app user can delete video footage.
Ten, there has been occasional glitches. One time during an alarm activation one of the auxiliary sirens kept blasting despite the system being disarmed. Also, I believe that during an alarm test the self arming automation would bypass an alarm in progress.
Eleven, idk who thought this was a good idea but panic alarms can be turned off by the key fob and there’s no option in the app to disable such function let alone disable the disarm button only.
In the end, this is an okay system. Great when it first came out. Average in 2025.
I would only recommend this system if you like the appearance, the sensors they offer are all you need, the monitoring pricing is valuable to you, you have three easy to locate panic buttons programmed and labeled for each type of emergency and you work around system limitations. After all, a system used properly is better than no system at all.
Incorrectly Billed and the resolutions only got worse.
The company offered me to be part of a Beta testing for their outdoor camera, when they sent it to me, they also told afterwards that it was going a higher billing amount per month instead of the $9.99 i was paying. At that point i opted out of the beta and sent the equipment back that showed up because that part was left out when i agreed.
I later realized that even though i had opted out i had been charged $47.98 per month for 6 months, ($28788).
When i called about this incorrect charge they customer service rep told me they couldn't refund my money (even though i had opted out and should not have been charged) and instead would just need to give me credit towards charges. Since it was presented as the only option i agreed and about a year and a half later got hit with 3 month of $49.98 (almost $150) for this service that once again i never wanted in the first place. Now this time i called and all i was refunded was $50. So I'm out $100.
Their customer service is awful and i would recommend going with an alternative security company. I'm not happy with Simpli Safe at all.
Run from ADT
They out and out lie to you when they are trying to sell you the product ! They omit information that you need. They hide things in the very fine print of their lengthy contract. When the equipment you are paying on that is supposed to be under warranty fails they charge you to repair it !! Not to mention when you call then with a problem they will pass you from from extension to extension with endless hold times until you hang up rather than just answer your questions ! Buyer Beware run from ADT !!
